Quote from Svitzer Humber
I am writing to inform you that from 0001hrs Thursday 19th January, our Svitzer Immingham crews will be undertaking an entire overtime ban and will commence working to rule.
The company and the workforce are in dispute over the 2016 pay negotiations, where the company has proposed a pay freeze across the UK. This has been accepted in many ports, but in Immingham the crews will not accept this essential measure.
Across the UK and in Immingham specifically we have seen our volumes drop significantly. Coupled with this reduction in volumes, in Immingham we are competing against a lower cost operator, and in order to compete, we must lower our cost base.
Simon Lee, Svitzer Port Manager for Immingham has already communicated with your operational team, and will take the time to visit you on Friday if you are available to discuss in more detail.
We will be able to continue our operation, but we expect to suffer unforeseen disruptions in service as a result. We have now started the process of communicating with our clients.
Both parties have agreed to conciliation through ACAS, and we will of course keep you fully updated as the situation progresses.
