Paddling with a Purpose: Ipswich Dragon Boat Race 2024

Saturday 1st June marked the return of the annual Dragon Boat Race for another thrilling year. This event has become a local tradition, drawing enthusiastic crowds and fostering a spirit of friendly competition among Suffolk businesses.

Beyond the races, the day serves a greater purpose: fundraising for the event organisers, Brave Futures, who are a vital lifeline for young people aged from zero to 18 years who have been victims of abuse throughout Suffolk and Norfolk. They give children and young people the skills and tools they need to rebuild their futures, manage the trauma they have experienced and help them move from victim to survivor.

Following a successful partnership in 2023, Cory Brothers continued their support and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting as Managing Director Peter Wilson expressed “Last year’s sponsorship proved incredibly rewarding, and the community’s response was phenomenal. As we celebrate the Year of the Dragon, we’re honoured to contribute to Brave Futures’ inspiring work with local youth, making this event even bigger and raising more crucial funds.”

Cory Brothers’ hospitality tent hosted a range of guests including valued customers, partners, esteemed dignitaries Ipswich Mayor and Mayoress, and VertomCory-sponsored driver Lydia Walmsley – who connected with fans and fellow enthusiasts.

The local, VertomCory-sponsored American football team, the Ipswich Cardinals, also joined the festivities by rowing alongside us in a Cory boat and securing a commendable 2nd-place finish out of the 36 teams.

The tent buzzed with additional fundraising activities, including a raffle with amazing prizes donated by local businesses. Thanks to the generosity of the supporters, this raised an additional £700 for Brave Futures.

The true magic of the Dragon Boat Race lies in the vibrant community spirit it fosters. With its focus on friendly competition and a shared goal of supporting a worthy cause, the event continues to be a resounding success with a rising number of teams and attendees.

We look forward to seeing you all again next year on Saturday, June 6th, for the 2025 Ipswich Dragon Boat Race!
