Energy Logistics Services - FAQs
What is energy logistics?
Energy logistics is the transportation of fuels from the supplier to the end distribution centre. This involves loading fuels into units for transportation by road and sea to the end distributor. For larger movements by sea, units are unloaded onto a vessel for bulk movement.
During the transportation of energy cargoes, safety and compliance are paramount throughout the supply chain. Hazardous compliance of ADR for road transportation, IMDG for ocean freight, and IATA for airfreight, is essential for energy logistics.
Cory Brothers are experts in the worldwide transportation of energy products, servicing the industry since 1842.

If the goods are shipped in a container, the ocean freight rate will be calculated per container. These rates can be different for the size and type of container that is being shipped (EG 40’DV & 40’HC), so ask for a quote for the exact shipping equipment that you require.
If the goods are shipped as part of a loaded container (LCL), then the sea freight will be determined using the FCL container rate (that the co-loader will pay to the carrier), the loading/unloading, the administration and the volume/weight of your consignment.
At Cory Brothers, we provide you with cost-effective ocean freight. Get in touch for more info.
What are the risks for unloading energy vessels?
Most energy commodities are classed as dangerous goods, and require additional safety precautions when loading, transporting and unloading. Bulk energy vessels, whether dry or liquid, have large quantities of fuels in one place, which amplifies the risks and requires greater caution.
Every port has undertaken risk assessment in order to ascertain the safe working limits for wind, snow, rain, and other weather. For hazardous commodities, such as flammable or potentially explosive cargos, these limits may be adjusted in order to take into consideration the greater risk that extreme weather would present.
Cory Brothers began as a coal exporter, and have grown their expertise in the fuel industry as it has changed and developed in the last 180 years.

What needs to be considered when arranging energy logistics?
When arranging transportation of energy commodities, safety and security must be prioritised where the fuels are classed as dangerous goods. Licenses, procedures and paperwork for hazardous goods must be compliant through the energy logistics supply chain, and failure to adhere to dangerous goods codes can carry significant penalties.
When transporting the goods by road, the vehicle must be ADR compliant. An ocean carrier must observe the IMDG code when arranging energy freight. Transportation of fuels by air must be done in accordance with the IATA guidelines for dangerous goods.
Cory Brothers provide energy logistics services around the globe.

Are there restrictions on transporting energy products?
There are restrictions on arranging most energy logistics movements due to the hazardous nature of the cargo. Biofuels, such as waste cereal products, are not classed as hazardous cargo and can usually be moved without restriction; however, there may be port health checks when moving across the border of some countries.
When arranging the transport of hazardous fuels, licenses are required to ensure safe handling from loaders, transporters and recipients of the cargo. Compliance with ADR, IMDG or IATA procedures is required when transporting energy products.
