Hurricane Irma has likely maxed out its intensity for now as the system is a very powerful Category 5 hurricane with sustained winds of 160 knots. Irma is forecast to continue to track west-northwestward over the next 3-4 days bringing significant and life threatening conditions for the Northern Leeward Islands, Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, and Cuba.
Tropical Storm Jose continues to strengthen and is forecast to become a hurricane within the next day or so as the environment out ahead of the system remains favorable. Jose is forecast to continue to track west-northwest to northwestward in the coming days and remain out in the open waters of the North Atlantic.
Invest 95L has become Tropical Storm Katia overnight as somewhat favorable conditions have resulted in a steady strengthening. Further strengthening is possible over the next 2-3 days with Katia possibly becoming a hurricane before making landfall in Mexico.
