Tropical Depression Nineteen has formed over the Atlantic. Nineteen is an expanding plume of deep convection atop a compact closed low-level circulation. Environmental conditions are only marginally favorable for additional strengthening, but model guidance does suggest Nineteen will achieve tropical storm status within the next 12-18 hours. Additional strengthening will be limited to the next 48 hours, as further northward progress will take Nineteen into cooler sea-surface temperatures. A cold front is forecast to absorb Nineteen by midweek, which should accelerate Nineteen’s extra-tropical transition, if it hasn’t already occurred by that time.
Elsewhere, minimal tropical cyclone development chances are forecast as strong to very strong wind shear and regions of dry air should limit potential this late in the Atlantic hurricane season.
